Your website looks good—but is it losing you customers?

Terence Teixeira · Corporate Media Worx

Your website might look good, but can customers easily find what they need and get in touch? In this short video, I explain why it is worth checking your website as though you were a new customer.

Five checks you can do today

Open your website on your phone and work through these checks. You do not need any special tools.

  1. Can you tell what the business does?

Look at the first screen. Would someone unfamiliar with your business understand what you offer and whether it is relevant to them?

  2. Can you find the service you need?

Follow the menu and page links. Watch for unclear wording, dead ends or information that takes too much searching to find.

  3. Can you easily get in touch?

Find the phone number, email address or enquiry button. Test the links and make sure they lead where you expect.

  4. Does the enquiry form actually work?

Send a clearly labelled test message and check that it arrives in the correct inbox. A confirmation on the website alone does not prove the message was delivered. Avoid including sensitive information in your test.

  5. Is the website comfortable to use on a phone?

Check that text is readable, buttons are easy to tap and nothing important is cut off or covered by a pop-up.

What should you fix first?

Start with anything that stops a customer completing a task: a broken enquiry form, an unusable mobile menu or incorrect contact details. Then work through unclear information and presentation issues. Finding a problem does not automatically mean you need a new website; a focused repair may be enough.

Practical website maintenance can address individual problems. If you need help taking over a neglected site, website rescue can help establish a clear starting point.
